CEO & President, Siemens, Germany

Klaus Kleinfeld assumed the position of President and Chief Executive Officer of Siemens AG on January 27, 2005.

Prior to being named CEO, he was a member of the Corporate Executive Committee since January 2004, and had special responsibility for the Information and Communications business area, as well as for Siemens’ regional companies.

From 2002, Dr. Kleinfeld led the company’s U.S. region as President and CEO and was the Chief Operating Officer responsible for business in healthcare technology and information management, power generation and transmission, automation and controls, lighting, information and communications technology, transportation, and building technologies in 2001.

Dr. Kleinfeld was also the Executive Vice President and a member of the Executive Board of the Siemens AG Medical Engineering Group. And earlier, he established and led the Siemens Management Consulting Group (SMC) where he helped to establish cutting-edge practices in benchmarking, business re-engineering and innovation.

Dr. Kleinfeld first joined Siemens in 1987 in the Corporate Sales and Marketing group, and moved a year later to Siemens Corporate Planning and Strategy. Before joining the company, Dr. Kleinfeld was a strategic product manager at the CIBA-GEIGY Pharmaceuticals Division in Basel, Switzerland.

He earned a Master’s Degree in Business Administration/Economics from the University of Goettingen (Germany) in 1982, followed by a Ph.D. in Strategic Management from the University of Wuerzburg (Germany) in 1992.
