Ki-Tae Lee
Vice Chairman & CTO, Samsung Electronics
Mr. Ki Tae Lee is Vice Chairman & CTO of Samsung Electronics. He became the Company’s Vice Chairman & CTO in January 2007 following years of his distinguished service.
Joining Samsung in 1973, Mr. Lee has held a number of positions during his career. Prior to the current position, from 2001 to 2006, he headed Telecommunication Network Business. From 2000 to 2001, he served as Executive Vice President of Information and Communications Business. In February 1999, he was named Executive Vice President and General Manager of Wireless Terminal Division. Previously, he also managed Fax Business, Video Business and Sound Facilities.
Among his many accomplishments are the launch of Samsung’s very first mobile phone and commercialization of the first CDMA handset. His strong and consistent drive for technology innovation and market leadership has helped Samsung become the third largest handset provider in the world only in ten years.
Today, Mr. Lee’s accomplishments are legend, both at Samsung and in the telecommunications industry. He was listed as one of “The Stars of Asia” by Business Week in July 2002. He also received many outstanding awards and industry recognition, including the first Je-Ga Park Award, an award granted to the industry leader who made the biggest contribution to technological development, from Korean Standards Association (KSA) in June 2006, IMI Grand Prize for Best Management from the Federation of Korean Industries (FKI) in December 2005 and IEEE Distinguished Industry Leader Award in May 2005. In April 2003, he also received Information and Communications Grand Prize at the 48th Annual Information and Communications Ceremony. In November 1998, he was awarded Order of Industrial Service Merit in recognition of his contribution to the industry’s quality management.
Mr. Lee is Honorary Chairman of the Korean Society of Quality Management (KSQM). He has served as Chair of the Korea Association of Information and Telecommunication (KAIT), and of the Korea Association of Photonics Industry Development (KAPID). He is a member of the National Academy of Engineering of Korea (NAEK).
Mr. Lee received a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from InHa University in 1972.
