In-Chon Yu
Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Korea
Before joining the cabinet, Minister Yu won the hearts of the Korean public through his many roles as a popular actor, appearing in dramas, movies, and musicals for most of his life. He is most well-known for his role in the television drama, , the longest-running drama series in the history of Korean television. He also played the starring role in the hit television drama, , based on the story of President Lee Myung-bak - a boy who grew up poor, but later went on to become chief executive of one of the nation's most powerful corporations. The role led him to build personal friendship with President Lee.
In the late 1990s, Minister Yu opened his own theater and played the lead role in Shakespeare's which led to many awards. Minister Yu has also demonstrated great ability as a leader and manager. He later worked for three years, beginning in 2004, as the chief managing director of the Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture, an organization under the auspices of the Seoul Metropolitan Government. He was appointed by then Mayor Lee Myung-bak during his term as the mayor of the capital city.
Minister Yu had been an associate professor of Art at the Chung-Ang University, Seoul, Korea. He has an interest in environmental issues, which led him to hold positions such as director of the Korea Green Fund and Special Envoy on Environmental Protection. He was born in 1951 and received his Bachelor and Master's Degrees in theater and film in Chung-Ang University. He will provide a special luncheon speech during the second day of the Seoul Digital Forum 2008.
