Jeung-Hyun Yoon
Minister of Strategy and Finance, Republic of Korea
Minister of Strategy and Finance Yoon, Jeung-Hyun is one of the rare economic government officials who know how to present their thoughts in a digital format, as shown by his expertise in running a Cyworld mini-homepage - one of the very first social media blogs in the world - for the past few years. When he was appointed the second-ever Minister of Strategy and Finance for President Lee, Myung-Bak's government, many congratulatory messages and corresponding replies were exchanged over this digital social network.
In regards to overcoming the global economic crisis, two key ideas portray his approach to the crisis: "Job sharing" and "Korea's systematic approach to dealing with bad debts." He suggests that job sharing could be a solution not only to battle sluggish consumption but also to prevent the economic crisis from becoming a social crisis in countries experiencing economic difficulties.
As a financial expert, he believes it is his duty to share with other nations South Korea's experience in dealing with bad debts during the Asian Financial Crisis. In fact, this particular approach was seen as a textbook example of how to deal with bad debts at the recent G-20 Summit Meeting in London.
Born in Masan, Gyeongsangnam-do on September 19, 1946, Minister Yoon is a graduate of the College of Law at Seoul National University. He served as the Director-General for the Financial Policy Bureau and the Deputy Minister for the Tax and Customs Office and the Financial Policy Office at the Ministry of Finance and Economy. Following his appointment as the Governor of Financial Supervisory Commission in 2004, he became the Minister of Strategy and Finance in February 2009.
