Jang, Un-kyu is principal dancer of the Korea National Ballet. He entered the company in 1993. When he was a student of Sunhwa Art Middle School in 1993, he was admitted to enter the London Studio Center with a scholarship. He graduated from the London Studio Center in 1996 and graduated from the School of Dance of the Korea National University of Arts in 2001. He was taught by David Wall, principal dancer of the British Royal Ballet and participated in a local performance in England.

In 1998, he participated in the Korea Ballet Stars Festival to perform together with the famous Korean ballet stars. Before he enters the Korea National Ballet, he as the new talent already had experience in performing the starring roles in of Yuri Grigorovich. He performed as guest member of the Korea National Ballet and the Universal Ballet. He participated in the various competitions and performances and, in this manner, he accumulated his stage experience. His great achievements include the best couple (With Bo-yun Noh) at the Bulgaria Varna International Ballet Competition in 2002 and the gold prize at the Russia Kazan International Ballet Competition in 2001. Also he won the best new artist and Danceur Noble prize of the Korea Ballet Association in 2001. In 2007, he participated in the Budapest World Gala, Hungary to show his sophisticated and smart technique to the audience and his performance then was greatly praised by the critics.
