David Wertheimer David Wertheimer

CEO & Executive Director, Entertainment Technology Center @ USC

David Wertheimer has been at the intersection of technology and entertainment for over 15 years. After working for Steve Jobs and Larry Ellison in the Bay Area, he was recruited to be the first president of Paramount Digital Entertainment and then founded WireBreak Entertainment, one of the first digital content delivery studio/networks. Today, he runs the Entertainment Technology Center @ USC.

The ETC@USC is a non-profit consortium, founded with help from George Lucas and now funded by the Hollywood studios, Disney, Fox, Paramount, Warner Bros and Sony Pictures, and a variety of leading technology, CE and service companies, including Cisco, LG, Panasonic, Thomson TCS and Deluxe. The ETC's mission is to look at how technology is changing the entertainment landscape, to understand what consumers want and to bring companies together to ensure they get it. Through its Anytime/Anywhere Content Lab, the ETC provides a space where the industry, along with students from USC, can explore how real users will consume content in emerging combinations of technologies and networks.

ETC's Consumer 3D Experience Lab is helping the industry chart a course for 3D's migration into the home. Furthermore, ETC's Interoperable Master Format (IMF) project seeks to create a specification for what could be a standard package for high-quality video, audio and metadata to enable downstream distribution of content.

Wertheimer was named one of five entertainment executives to watch by USA Today and one of three individuals leading the next generation of convergence by the Hollywood Reporter.
