Un-Chan Chung Un-Chan Chung

Prime Minister, the Republic of Korea (2010)

Chung Un-Chan was appointed as the 40th Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea on September 29, 2009. He served as the 23rd President of Seoul National University from 2002 to 2006. As a leading Korean economist and professor of economics, he also held senior positions in prominent organizations: Director of the Institute for Research in Finance and Economics, President of the Korean Social Science Research Council, and President of the Korean Economic Association.

He earned his BA from Seoul National University, MA from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, and Ph.D from Princeton University. Chung began his academic career as a Business Associate and Assistant Professor at Columbia University from 1976 to 1978. He then returned to Seoul National University as professor of economics from 1978 to 2009 and served as Dean of the College of Social Sciences in 2002. Chung has written many books and articles on macroeconomics and financial markets. He was awarded an Honorary Doctorate Degree from the Far Eastern National University in Russia in 2004.
