Heung-Nam Kim
President, Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute(ETRI)
Kim Heung-Nam was appointed President of the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute(ETRI) in Korea in November 2009. He previously served as Vice President of ETRI R&D Planning & Strategy Division, Vice President of ETRI Embedded Software Research Division and a Chairperson of the ETRI Innovation Committee. He joined ETRI in 1983 as a Researcher at the System Engineering Research Laboratory of the Korea Institute of Science and Technology(KIST). ETRI at that time was a part of KIST.
Dr. Kim’s technological and business background revolves around his 20 years of experience in large-scale national R&D projects: Real-time Operating System Technology, Embedded Software Industry Strategy, HomeSerV Technology, Embedded Software Standard Platform Technology, Wireless Home Network based HD Multimedia Service Technology, and Terminal-adaptive Embedded Operating System Technology for Mobile Convergence Computing. His work has produced a number of research papers, patents, and publications, overseas and domestically.
He received a BS in electrical engineering from Seoul National University, an MS and a PhD in computer science from Ball State University and Pennsylvania State University, both in the United States.
