Jeong Kim
President of Bell Labs and Chief Strategy Officer for Alcatel-Lucent
Jeong Kim is President of Bell Labs and Chief Strategy Officer for Alcatel-Lucent. He originally joined Lucent Technologies in May 1998 when Lucent acquired Yurie Systems, a high-tech communications equipment company, which he founded in 1992 and served as its Chairman and CEO.
During his tenure at Lucent, Kim initially served as the President of Lucent's former Broadband Carrier Networks. In 1999 he was named Chief Operating Officer and later President of Lucent's Optical Network Group.
He left Lucent in 2001 to join the University of Maryland faculty, with appointments in both the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and the Department of Mechanical Engineering. He rejoined the company in April 2005 as President of Bell Labs.
His early career encompassed computer design, satellite systems design and data communications, and included seven years as a Nuclear Submarine Officer in the U.S. Navy.
Kim holds a Ph.D. in Reliability Engineering from the University of Maryland, an MA in Technical Management and a BA in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from Johns Hopkins University. He is a member of the National Academy of Engineering as well as the Washington Business Hall of Fame. Kim serves on the boards of Schneider Electronic, John Hopkins University, and Georgetown University.
