Woon-Tack Woo

Woo Woontack is a professor at the Graduate School of Culture Technology of the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST). Prior to joining KAIST, he was a professor at the School of Information and Communications of the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) and the founder of the Cultural Technology Institute (CTI).
He is a pioneer in Korea in the area of virtual reality; he established concepts of ubiquitous virtual reality in the smart space and the DigiLog experience utilizing augmented reality. Especially, he has developed the DigiLog Book combining analog books with 3D computer graphic content as well as the DigiLog Miniature fusing miniatures with 3D content applying augmented reality technology. In addition, he introduced the new concept of context-aware mobile augmented reality (CAMAR) and in-situ mashup for CAMAR. He holds more than 50 pending/registered patents, published about 300 papers and received several best paper awards.
He graduated from Kyungpook National University with a BS in electronic engineering. He received his MS in electronic engineering (3D vision) from POSTECH and his PhD in electrical engineering—Systems (3D imaging) from the University of Southern California.
