How Humans Can Coexist with Technology
Self-driving cars are about to hit the streets. Home appliances are getting smarter, learning our daily behaviors and communicating with other devices. Technology, what once was a tool for making life more convenient, is increasingly replacing human labor and restructuring human society as we know it. While technology now pervades nearly all aspects of our everyday life, how well do we understand the traits of the emerging technologies and their implications? This session brings together psychologist Steven Pinker, robot ethicist Kate Darling, computer scientist Dongman Lee and sociologist Wonjae Lee to discuss social and ethical problems that radical technological advances may trigger. How can we avoid technology becoming an intractable, divisive force in our society? And how can we ensure that technological innovations benefit humanity?
