Guy STANDING is a labour economist with a PhD from the University of Cambridge. He is currently Professorial Research Associate at SOAS University of London, after holding chairs at SOAS and the universities of Bath (UK) and Monash (Australia). These followed a long career at the International Labour Organization where he was Director of its Socio-Economic Security Programme. Professor Standing is a founder and honorary co-president of the Basic Income Earth Network (BIEN), an international non-governmental organization promoting basic income as a right. His many books and articles include the widely cited The Precariat: The New Dangerous Class (2011; fourth edition 2021), which has been translated into 24 languages; The Corruption of Capitalism: Why Rentiers Thrive and Work Does Not Pay (2016; third edition 2021); Basic Income: And How We Can Make It Happen (2017); Plunder of the Commons: A Manifesto for Sharing Public Wealth (2019); The Blue Commons: Rescuing the Economy of the Sea (2022); and The Politics of Time: Gaining Control in the Age of Uncertainty (2023).
