Who Owns Your Mind?: Defining Cognitive Sovereignty in the Age of AI

In the Age of Agentic AI, Who Makes the Decisions?

Agentic AI can now judge and act on its own. Across defense, cybersecurity, and industry, AI is playing an increasingly consequential role in critical decisions. We need a serious conversation about how far we should entrust judgment to AI, and where human responsibility must remain.

The Outsourcing of Thought: Can We Protect Cognitive Sovereignty?

Using AI well is not the same as depending on it to think for us. To harness AI for better judgment and richer forms of collective intelligence while preserving our “cognitive sovereignty,” we must redefine the relationship between humans and AI.

Redesigning Social Systems for the Age of AI

AI is transforming entire social systems, from education and work to media and politics. What kinds of social safety nets and communities do we need for this new era? We explore how our institutions and social systems must evolve in response.

Invitation to SDF 2026

Moonshin BANG

You are cordially invited to the SBS D Forum (SDF) 2026.

With the rise of "agentic AI" that judges and acts on its own, AI emerged earlier this year as a core operational tool of warfare, and has recently reached the point of carrying out hacking on its own. The pace of change is outrunning our ability to predict and respond.

Amid competing claims to slow the advance of AI and to keep innovation moving forward, we face a fundamental question: How far should we entrust judgment and decision making to AI, and how do we retain our sovereignty over thought and choice? With this concern in mind, we have chosen “Who Owns Your Mind? Defining Cognitive Sovereignty in the Age of AI” as this year’s theme.

Eliezer YUDKOWSKY, a pioneer of AI alignment research who has long warned of the dangers of superintelligence, will visit Korea for the first time to propose what humanity and Korea should do as we approach the threshold of superintelligence, then join Professor KIM Daeshik of KAIST for a conversation.

Philipp KORALUS, Founding Director of the Human-Centered AI Lab at the University of Oxford will explore how to safeguard human autonomy and the sovereignty of thought in an age when thinking itself is being outsourced.

Seoul National University's Institute for National Future Strategy will diagnose AI's impact on Korean society and present a new order for the age of substitute intelligence.
KAIST will experiment with how AI can contribute to social deliberation through a "mini-public" of AI agents, while Yonsei University will propose the media's role in building trust in an era where the line between the real and the fake has blurred.

Hanwha Aerospace and Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) will address new security challenges facing the defense industry in the age of AI, and Professor CHA Jiook of Seoul National University's Department of Psychology will introduce the possibilities and challenges of "Large Brain Model" research, which turns even emotion, memory, and reasoning into data.

Media artist Refik ANADOL, KAIST Endowed Chair Professor KANG Yiyun, and poet PARK Joon, among others, will offer an artist's perspective on new ways to make use of AI while preserving what is distinctly human.

An era we have never before experienced is arriving, one in which we must coexist with AI approaching human-level cognitive abilities.
I invite you to join us as we consider together what to entrust to AI and what we must preserve.
I hope you will take part in this conversation.

Thank you.
