Marcel Rosenbach
Reporter, Der Spiegel/Co-author, Staatsfeind WikiLeaks
Marcel Rosenbach has been a staff writer with the leading German news magazine Der Spiegel since 2001. After covering business, media and new media topics for the magazine, he has, since 2006, reported on national and international security related matters. His current field of work includes cyber warfare and terrorism.
Beginning in early 2010, Rosenbach and his colleague Holger Stark became the point of contact between WikiLeaks and Der Spiegel. The German magazine was one of the few international media outlets that got early access to WikiLeaks documents such as the war logs from Afghanistan and Iraq, as well as 251,000 diplomatic cables. Rosenbach was part of the Spiegel team that analyzed and worked with the documents. Throughout 2010 and since then, he met with WikiLeaks’ founder Julian Assange and his then-German Spokesperson Daniel Domscheit Berg many times. In early 2010, Rosenbach and Stark published their book Staatsfeind WikiLeaks (WikiLeaks, Public Enemy No.1) that describes the origins and career of the platform and its enigmatic founder, Julian Assange. The book became a nonfiction bestseller in Germany and appeared in more than 10 Languages, including Korean.
